Oxford University nominated Professor Louise Richardson to be its next vice-chancellor. She is the first woman to be picked to run the school in the 785 years it has been appointing people to run it. Richardson, who is currently the principal of St. Andrews University, was born in Ireland and has degrees from Trinity College, Dublin, UCLA, and Harvard. She is a renowned expert on terrorism. Richardson told the Guardian of her upcoming academic adventure, “I look forward to the day when a woman being appointed isn’t in itself news.”
