First Female Firefighter to Ever Appear in the FDNY Calendar Is Obviously a Total Badass

Usually reserved entirely for beefcakes, the 2015 edition of the FDNY Calendar of Heroes features a woman for the first time ever. “They said if I made it in the calendar, I would look like a pinup girl,” Danae Mines, one of only a few dozen female firefighters in New York, told the Daily News. “I wasn’t going to let anyone tell me I couldn’t do what I wanted to do.”

I wanted my picture in the calendar so that young girls and young women can see me and know that they can do this job,” said the 11-year department veteran, who, like the guys, was shot by celebrity photographer Patrick McMullan. “I love the picture they took, and I love the month,” she added. “It’s Women’s History Month.”
