John Oliver Is Fighting Robocalls by Robocalling the FCC Every 90 Minutes

There are only a few issues these days that everyone agrees are universally awful and annoying, and one of them is the scourge on society that are robocalls. On Last Week Tonight, John Oliver took a closer look at robocalls and pointed out that the Federal Communications Commission and its “goober” chairman Ajit Pai could do more to stop the problem but might actually make it worse by narrowing the definition for autodialing, which would pave the way for even more robocalls in the future. So what are frustrated robocall victims to do?

“If only there was a way to get the FCC’s attention on this issue,” Oliver said during the segment. “Of course, one way to do that would be if someone had, I don’t know, say, the office numbers of all five FCC commissioners, because then you could, hypothetically, set up a program to robocall those numbers every 90 minutes.” Thanks to Last Week Tonight’s smart tech guy, the show has done just that and will be robocalling the robocall enablers with a prerecorded message from Oliver that ends with “Robocalls are incredibly annoying, and the person who can stop them is you! Talk to you again in 90 minutes. Here’s some bagpipe music!”
